About
Me:
my name is Mel and I am married with two children. Something I might should mention right from the start is that I am German. Yes, this explains a lot about my spelling and grammar :o). Go easy on me, I am trying my best.
I am not a fitness fanatic, but prefer everything in moderation. I hate the sentence: 'No pain, no gain', always have done but since I have become a yoga instructor I hate it even more. If it hurts, it is WRONG!
I've never had extreme problems with my weight and just struggled a bit after the birth of my second child, but healthy eating and fitness soon sorted this.Well, it also depends on what you consider as struggling with weight. Am I a size zero? Hell no and I have no intentions to be one. I still have to work on my baby belly, but that is nothing to lose sleep over ;-).
A couple of months ago I decided not to do this just for myself, but to help other women to feel more comfortable about themselves. Instead of treating it as a hobby I want to turn my path into something more productive and enrolled in a course to become a Certified Fitness Instructor which I am working on right now (update: Passed my certificate. Woo Hoo! Next on the list: Cardio Trainer & Nutrition).
What are my goals for you? I want you to learn that fitness can be fun. Yes, ladies we have left the stuffy old school gyms behind us that made us feel unworthy to wear trainers. No more being picked last in gym class, being tyrannized by a power crazed gym teacher, class mates that make fun off us because we are not fast enough; jump high enough ..... Hm, or was it just me?
Many, many years later I do sports because I enjoy them. Not all, but I don't have too. I do what I like and push myself as much or as little as I like. It should be a challenge, but not painful. I can now feel myself getting fitter every day without somebody standing behind me shouting: 'GO, GO, GO'! Now I do the shouting. Just joking!
Classes at Fitness Corner:
We will be looking at:
~ Diversity > The exercises will vary to keep it fresh by using different 'equipment' like stability ball, medicine ball, weights, skipping ropes .....
~ Non competitive > I very much like this approach in yoga. I can't stand competitions and want to make sure that nobody in class feels pressurized, pushed or uncomfortable.
~ Enjoyment/ Fun > If you enjoy doing something, than you will look forward to it. But because of the enjoyment and fun the classes should not be mistaken for a joke.
~ Challenge > The classes will still be challenging to build up your fitness which means you get out what you put in. But, again from yoga, everybody works to their own limits and should not be concerned what the lady next to her is doing. Focus on yourself rather than on others to build up your fitness and before you know it you run the extra mile, manage the set of stairs without getting out off breath, do the extra press-up, chase your children around the garden...
It takes time to become fit, but once you notice the first changes you feel good about yourself and you want more. It is not about being a tiny size, but about your health and your physical capability to cope better in everyday life. Not just physical challenges will become easier for you, but fitness can also lower your stress levels. Come and try it. What have you got to loose?
