There are so many different activities available, so why should you choose yoga? What makes it so different to other activities and where are the benefits? Yoga is an ancient approach to create health and well-being by building awareness, strength, and flexibility in both mind and body regardless of age or physical abilities. The benefits of yoga are endless and include:
The advantage of yoga compared to other activities is that you can develop these benefits in a non-competitive environment. Your focus should be on YOU and YOU alone. Age and physical ability don't matter because you can improve at any stage of your life.
This is NOT traditional Yoga. My preferred style is flowing Hatha Yoga focusing on the physical aspects of postures which are used to strengthen, stretch, and tone the body as part of yogic practice. Sometimes the class will be slower and sometimes more dynamic. Sometimes we practice isolated postures and other times we link postures with the breath to create Vinyasa Style sequences. I am not rigid in my ways but like to work with the energies of the day. Listen more to what your body needs, which changes on a daily basis, to get the best out of it. Breathing techniques: To bring clarity, lightness and calmness to our being. To detox our body from waste and to keep the mind alert. Relaxation: True relaxation is experienced by the body and mind when little or no energy is consumed. It is Nature's way of recharging your batteries. Without proper relaxation the body and mind become overworked and inefficient. Sometimes short, sometimes a bit longer. Sometimes we just enjoy the quite time, sometimes you will be experiencing visual journeys. USE this time to recharge your batteries before returning to the hustle and bustle of daily life.
Also from October 2011 onwards I will include Yoga Rhythm. This form is a "dynamic strong workout consisting of mat based routines choreographed to music. Physically challenges all ages and abilities whilst relaxing and clearing the mind" (Charli Sales, founder of YR).
